If your video cards BIOS is not fully UEFI compliant, you will get an error code of 5 short beeps and no video output. Gigabyte only supports Secure Boot when CSM is disabled
When CSM support is enabled, the UEFI BIOS is providing legacy support for older devices that do not support UEFI on boot-up. CSM stands for Compatibility Support Module
The latest BIOS release has it enabled by default Gigabyte has CSM support disabled by default in their original BIOS release I did some research and found out the following: If I removed the video card and switched back to the onboard video, everything would work again. The 5 short beeps were back and nothing on the monitor. I disabled CSM, configured secure boot, and rebooted. I went into the BIOS configuration and could not find an option for Secure Boot settings, so I did some research and found out I had to disable an option called CSM support before the Secure Boot settings would show up. I then noticed that Secure Boot was disabled.

I configured the BIOS settings the way I wanted them and installed Windows 10. Yay!Īt this point, I thought maybe something was wrong with the video card, but I wasn't sure, so I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, put back in the GTX 660 and this time it worked. Still Nothing.įinally, I removed the video card and hooked the monitor up to the onboard video and the system booted. I then tried moving the RAM around thinking maybe it needed to be in a specific slot. I removed the CPU, checked the pins on the motherboard for damage, re-seated the CPU and still nothing but the same 5 beeps when I turned on the system. Everything I could find said 5 short beeps is a processor issue.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4 I picked up the following new hardware on Amazon and decided I would continue to use the Nvidia GTX 660 from her current system. She only does some light gaming and plays mostly older games like The Sims 2 (she prefers this one to the newer games).
